TabToPrompt — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 September 2026

TabToPrompt ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that converts the content of the web page you're viewing, or the text you've selected, into Markdown. This page explains, plainly, what data the extension touches and what it does with it.

Short version

What the extension reads

When you click "Convert page to Markdown," press the Alt+Shift+M shortcut, or use a Pro feature (merge tabs, table to CSV), the extension reads the HTML of the page you're currently on (or the tabs you explicitly selected, for the "merge tabs" Pro feature) to build the Markdown output. This happens entirely inside your browser, using locally bundled code (Mozilla's Readability library and Turndown) — no page content is ever sent to any server, including ours.

What is stored, and where

The extension stores the following in chrome.storage.local, which lives only on your device and is never synced to a server we operate:

The one network call: Polar.sh license validation

Pro subscriptions are sold and billed by Polar.sh, acting as Merchant of Record — we never see or store your card details. When you paste a license key, or periodically (at most once every 24 hours) while a Pro license is active, the extension sends the license key and our public organization ID to Polar's license-validation endpoint (https://api.polar.sh/v1/customer-portal/license-keys/validate) to confirm the key is still valid. This request does not include any page content, browsing history, or personal information beyond the license key itself. See Polar's own privacy policy for how they handle that request.

Permissions, in plain language

Children's privacy

TabToPrompt is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this same address with a new "Last updated" date.
